With a population of over 1000 and home to the North Cedar Jr/Sr School, Clarence is a fun little town in central Iowa on Highway 30. Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, Tipton Police Department, Cedar County Public Health, and Safe Routes to School joined together to do a walk audit for the school. We identified the good, bad, and weird in walking to North Cedar Jr/Sr School. We split up into two groups to cover more ground and take copious notes on the best routes to walk to school and what changes could be implemented in the next two weeks.

A walk audit evalutates the walkability and bikeability of a location and its surroundings. When conducting a walk audit it is important to keep in mind that safe routes are for all and is the route walkable for a child, a senior citizen, and ADA compliant?
